Situated on the unceded and ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people, and nestled in a newly developed urban area, a centre’s infant and toddler classroom is bathed in bright, natural light from large windows that connect the interior spaces with the surrounding environment.
In this film, we explore the intricate interrelationship between the children and light. Here, light is not merely an environmental factor but a presence that engages with the children in dynamic and transformative ways. As children encounter light, they and the light co-constitute each other, moving through moments of becoming that are fluid and ever-changing.
Light and children are intertwined, each responding to and shaping the other. In these encounters, light invites children to pause, to move, to be still, to interact. It is in these subtle yet profound encounters that the boundaries between child and light blur, revealing a shared agency that transforms the space and the experience.
The film offers a glimpse into this relational dance, where light and children are not separate entities but co-participants in ongoing becoming. Unrestricted from predetermined outcomes, these encounters highlight the potential for creating otherwise subjectivities, where the the apex of the child-light relations becomes a site of possibility and becoming.
