Conversation VIII: Part II Reimagining Children’s Relations with the Arts
October 19, 2025
What became possible when children and art galleries met over many years? How did educators and pedagogists create curricular conditions that went beyond the idea of the ‘creative child,’ putting children’s ideas into conversation with those of artworks and artists?
This conversation reflected on a three-year inquiry between kindergarteners and the Kamloops Art Gallery (KAG). ECPN Pedagogist Teresa Smith, educator Sarah Murphy, KAG interim director Emily Hope, ECPN pedagogical coordinator Meagan Montpetit and ECPN co-director Veronica Pacini-Ketchabaw shared the challenges, possibilities, and trajectories of this collaboration.
The evening featured the premiere of a mini-documentary and a scene created by children in response to Biidaaban: (The Dawn Comes) by Métis artist Amanda Strong.
